Hook 'n Wool Boutique
at Betty Rae's Florida home
With Betty Rae's large supply of 100% wool cloth, combined with her friend, Bettina's supply,
they got together to make it available to other hooking friends by setting up a bedroom as an office and wool display. Still
in its infancy, the little boutique will offer a gathering place for other lovers of the ancient art of rug making called
"Traditional" and "Primitive." See my next page for examples and watch this site for some of Bettina's primitive designs.
She has been teaching this fiber art form for many years.
Bettina has introduced Betty Rae to many other "hookers" at various spots in Florida. The "Settlement"
is like Michigan's "Greenfield Village" and the hookers display their forefather's, or is it foremother's, form of rug making,
using old wool clothing cut into strips and pulled through burlap feed bags with a bent nail. Of course, today's tools are
much nicer and the backing comes in linen, rug warp, monk's cloth and, of course, burlap.
Always trying to be organized, Betty Rae discovered a store's shelving for shoe boxes at a used
furniture store. She bought four sections to create a 7'x7' wall of shelves for wool.
