Mosaics
Enjoy Betty Rae's delightful
mosaics as an expression of God. She learned about "Outsiders Art" from her friend, Jan List and thought
it meant art work left outside, but she later found it meant "Artists who do not follow the rules!" and knew this was her
kind of art!
She cuts out her pattern
from plywood, treats it with Kilz, draws the design on it and then grouts broken plates, crystals, glassware, and jewelry
to cover it. In the summer of 2003, Betty Rae created this six-foot sunflower with two little fairies so she could "have
flowers all winter long!"
Below is a tribute to Betty Rae's deceased
husband, Joe Calleja who was an industrial pipe-fitter, accomplished square-dancer and Navy Seal. She used his square-dancing
belt buckles to form the tool box, small pipe wrenches to show his life-long trade, his Navy medals to show his service to
his country, and a small red heart to show his love of rubies. The angel over the heart represets his wife, Betty Rae.
